Dusshera Festival - 2026

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of the major Hindu festivals celebrated across India. The festival marks the victory of good over evil and falls on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Ashwin. This year, Dussehra is being celebrated on October 20, 2026.

Significance of Dussehra Dussehra is associated with Lord Rama's victory over Ravana and his rescue of Sita from captivity. The festival reminds people that truth and righteousness ultimately triumph over evil. One of the main traditions during Dussehra is Ravana Dahan, in which effigies of Ravana are set on fire. The ritual symbolises the destruction of evil and the importance of keeping negative thoughts and actions at bay

The name Dussehra is derived from the Sanskrit words Dasha, meaning ten, and Hara, meaning defeat. Ravana's ten heads are often associated with negative qualities such as anger, pride, greed, lust, jealousy, ego, hatred, fear, attachment and insensitivity. The festival encourages people to recognise and overcome these qualities in their own lives.

The team at Hotel Yash Regency wish all  our esteemed guests  and their families a very Happy Dussehra!
